Most of the sensors, Development Boards like Arduino, Raspberry Pi and PIC Controllers work on either 5V or 3.3V most commonly available battery we have with us is 9V or 12V lead acid batteries so it is essential that we supply the components with correct voltage otherwise they may misbehave or simply not work at all. Also, fluctuations in power supply will result in errors and garbage data from the sensors. It may also corrupt the SD card on which you are writing the data or cause your program to misbehave. To deal with this problem we can use this Ultra-Small Size DC-DC Buck Converter module which can step down the DC voltages from upto 28V to 5-20V. The output voltage of this module can be adjusted too which means you can control the output voltage of this module. The main advantage of this module is that it can provide a high output current of upto 3A so that you can even connect small motors to it without thinking much but keep an eye on heat dissipation of the module.

DC-DC boost converters step up the input voltage to a higher voltage while also stepping down the available current since the module cant output more power than its inputs.
This boost converter is adjustable and capable of outputting a voltage in the range of 5.0 to 28V at a continuous current of up to 1.5A depending on input/output voltage settings with 1A available with most settings.
Since it is a boost converter, the input voltage must be lower than the output voltage.
The device is able to use low ESR bulk ceramic capacitors rather than electrolytic caps which avoids long-term aging concerns and contributes to the compact packaging.
The MT3608 converter IC has over-current and thermal limiting features built-in to safely shut the device down if driven too hard.

This shield has two separate channels, called A and B, that each use 4 of the Arduino pins to drive or sense the motor. In total there are 8 pins in use on this shield. You can use each channel separately to drive two DC motors or combine them to drive one bipolar stepper motor.

If you don't need the Brake and the Current Sensing and you also need more pins for your application you can disable this features by cutting the respective jumpers on the back side of the shield.
